This year, the Legatum Institute launches its first sub-national Prosperity Index, assessing prosperity across 389 Local Authorities in the UK. Like the Legatum Prosperity Index™ the UK Prosperity Index assesses how prosperous a place is using a combination of wealth and wellbeing across a number of sub-indices. From the strength of communities to the health of the population, the Index goes beyond traditional measures to give a rich picture of life in the UK.
Please explore the results using the interactive map above and download the rankings, report, and findings below. Above all, this Index is to be shared and used to help secure prosperity for all corners of the UK.

The Legatum Institute is an international think tank and educational charity that focuses on understanding, measuring, and explaining the journey from poverty to prosperity for individuals, communities, and nations. We believe true prosperity is as much about wellbeing as it is wealth, if everyone is to flourish. This year we have released our first ever full sub-national Index: an assessment of prosperity across 389 Local Authorities in the UK.
The UK Prosperity Index is part of the Legatum Institute’s signature publication programme and is the embodiment of the “measuring” element of our mission statement.
