The Geography OF Prosperity - UK

This year, for the first time, the Legatum Institute is assessing the prosperity of different local areas in the UK. Like the Legatum Prosperity Index™ the Geography of Prosperity uses a combination of wealth and wellbeing to assess how prosperous a place is. The index is built using the most recent data on GDP per capita and life satisfaction for 170 local areas in the UK. The result is a comprehensive assessment of the wealth, wellbeing, and prosperity of the country today. Please explore the results using the interactive map, download the rankings and explore some of the surprising findings in the infographics below.

About us

The Legatum Institute is an international think tank and educational charity focused on promoting prosperity. We do this by researching our core themes of revitalising capitalism and democracy. The Legatum Prosperity Index™ , our signature publication, ranks 142 countries in terms of wealth and wellbeing. This year, for the first time, we have produced an assessment of wealth and wellbeing in the “Geography of UK Prosperity” which you can explore here.

Through research programmes including Prosperity For All , The Culture of Prosperity, Transitions Forum , Prosperity Index and the Economics of Prosperity, the Institute seeks to understand what drives and restrains national success and individual flourishing. The Institute co-publishes with Foreign Policy magazine, the Democracy Lab, whose on-the-ground journalists report on political transitions around the world.

The Legatum Institute is based in London.
